Roofing FAQs: Your Questions Answered
Got questions about roofing? We will do our best to answer all of your questions and concerns here at Century Roofing and Siding, in business since 1980.
Q: What are some signs my roof needs replacement?
A: If you are experiencing leaks, missing or torn shingles, loose flashing, excessive shingle granules clogging gutters, and ceiling stains, your roof may need replacement. This is also true if your roof is more than 20 years old.
Q: My roof is leaking. Does it need to be completely replaced?
A: Not necessarily. We can make small repairs that will extend the life of a roof that is otherwise in good condition. However, if you keep experiencing the same problem areas through age and wear, replacement may be necessary.
Q: How do I know if hail damage has occurred?
A: This can be tough because often hail damage is not visible to the untrained eye. If you’ve been through a recent hail storm and suspect damage but aren’t sure, call us for a professional inspection.
Q: What is an ice dam?
A: Ice dams form through the thawing and freezing of melted snow at the eaves, resulting in leaks. In winter, when temperatures go below freezing, ice dams can damage the roof and overall structure of the home.
Q: How long do asphalt shingles last?
A: They can last between 15 and 40 years depending on the grade.
Q: How long does a metal roof last?
A: Thanks to new alloys and coatings, today’s metal roofs can last 50 years or more.
Q: How long does roof replacement take?
A: Most residential roofing jobs take just one day but sometimes more depending on weather delays and size of the roof.
Q: Will you clean up the area when you’re finished?
A: Yes, we will conduct a thorough clean-up and walk-through once the project is finished.
